This Christmas Day

Colored on the calendar of the ages

This Day demands cease-fire of all hostilities

The mind and the body are as still as night

Families and foes alike, though

they may be one and the same, come

bearing gifts, offerings of peace and hope

Tentative love

Time suspended

People from our always, absent but for This Day

return to populate the celebrations

We capture their essence at table

around the tree or making a toast

as logs crackle and crackers pop

A petina of bliss blends past and present

erasing the regret of things not done

easing the intrusive angst of tomorrow

Carols camouflage the dissonce

just for This Day

The wars will resume in the morning
